A ROYAL RAJASTHANI FOOD FESTIVAL AT GOKULAM GRAND HOTEL AND SPA, BANGALORE | A REVIEW
Hey Guys! If you are a fan of all things royal and big, then you must read through this blog post to know what all I enjoyed in the royal Rajasthani Food Festival at Bengaluru's newest luxury destination "Gokulam Gand Hotel and Spa". One might think of Rajasthan for its rich culture, heritage and golden desserts, but the land of warriors also thrills us with it's vibrant and scrumptious food. Gokulam Grand Hotel and Spa decided to take us all on an enchanting gastronomical journey to Rajasthan and they have exclusively brought in chefs from Jaipur to add an authentic regional flavor to the food festival and to make the event extra special. This stellar property is owned by Sree Gokulam Chit & Finance Co.Pvt.Ltd, the flagship company of the Gokulam Group of Companies.
The celebrations started on Oct 1st and it was on till the Oct 7th. I was so happy to be a part of this rich culinary journey on the very first day itself. It was an absolute delight to eat a little bit of everything from the best a cuisine can offer. If you are a vegetarian, then the royal spread has a variety of vegetarian curries and dals for you and if you are a meat-lover, there are so many delectable preparations with the chicken, mutton and fish. From the legendary Rajasthani Laal Maas that completely won my heart to the flavourful Rajput dish Gatte Ki Sabzi, Ker Sangri to the famous street snack Mirch Vada, Kachori, varieties of chaats to the most wanted Dal Bati Churma dipped in dollops of ghee and many more yummy dishes , Omg it was truly an enchanting food experience with a splash of fresh spices.
The Royal Spread:
Join me as I discuss more on the lip-smacking and well-lit dinner from the "Land of Forts and Palaces". We were welcomed in the traditional Rajasthani style by doing the aarti and applying the tilak. The entire place was beautifully decked up with elements that showcased the rich traditions and of Rajasthan. There was also their regional music and folk dance which made us all tap our foot as we relished on the delicacies.
I started off with a welcome drink and then gorged on some chaats. There were two veg and two non-veg starters. I tried the Murgh Angara, Hariyali Fish Tikka and the Hara Bhara Kebab. The Hara Bhara Kebab is a must mention, I loved the beautiful flavor it had and it was a melt-in-the-mouth delicacy.
The main course for both the vegetarian and non-vegetarian was a huge spread. The vegetarian main course had attractions like Rajasthani Dal Panchmel, a five dal creamy dish prepared with some fresh spices, Nagori Dum Aloo, Kale Chane Ki Kadhi, a very light and refreshing dish.
The Gatte ki sabzi, another famous staple in every traditional Rajasthani food festival roared loudly, it had bite-sized boiled besan nuggets cooked in a flavourful gravy.
There was also Paneer Shekawati, Jodhpuri Gatte Ka Pulao, Ker Sangri a lip-smacking stir-fry dish made with Rajasthani Tamatar Sev Ki Sabzi which had juicy tomatoes cooked in secret spices and had heaps of sev on the top.
There were two varieties of Dal Baatti, plain and masala, and three types of Churma. I loved the Bajra Churma but the dal could have been a little runny for this one.
Coming to the non-vegetarian, Laal Maas, a fiery meat curry that completely stole the show and won my heart. The bright red colored finger-licking dish with juicy, succulent and well-marinated mutton went extremely well with the steamed rice, rotis and pulao. I also liked the Murgh Aur Mangodi Ka Pulao and the Chicken curry.
There were limited desserts. I totally loved the halwa made with wheat flour and jaggery garnished beautifully with some almond shavings.
Overall, It was one amazing culinary journey to Rajasthan. We all know that food is one of the major routes to know the culture of a place and it's people. Gokulam Grand Hotel and Spa has done it really well. Right from the fresh hand-grounded masalas to specially sourced ingredients from Rajasthan, they have brought in a slice of Rajasthan to Bengaluru. I wish they have one more round of this and many more food fests too.
